Weekend Project

Sunday, September 25th, 2011 | Permalink

Ok here’s a little project  I worked on this weekend. I found 4 of these nightstands at a yard sale and got all of them for $17!

I immediately thought one of them would be a nice companion for the chair I reupholstered a couple weeks ago.  (See that here)  So I decided to give it a little paint, a little fabric and a little TLC this weekend.

I used a glossy white spray paint and didn’t prime it or use a heavy coat because I wanted to keep the wood grain look.

Of course as always I had great help!

Here’s the finished product!

And close up shots of the lamp shade I recovered.  I had no idea what I was doing but once I found a needle and thread I figured the rest out.

I found the material and cute ruffle at JoAnn’s fabric.

And here’s the final shot with the chair.  A nice little set if you ask me!

This project was very cheap and very easy.  I have several more items lined up to do something fun with so stay tuned!

Something Old becomes Something New!

So excited to show off my latest undertaking… reupholstering.  My sister and I decided to go yard selling last weekend.  We considered ourselves very lucky to find a couple of old chairs for $2 and $5.  They were hideous and in serious need of updating so we stopped by Walmart… got some cheap fabric and spray paint and got to work.
Here’s a before shot of the one I got for $5 from a little old man sitting in front of his garage with a “Yard Sale” sign.

First we had to take off the hideous fabric.
Here it is all stripped down.
Next step was to paint over the brown wood with a new color to match the cute fabric we picked out!

Added some new padding…
The last thing left to do was add the new fabric.
Here’s a close up shot of the fabric.
Final product!  I love it.  I am actually surprised at how great this chair turned out!
This was so much fun and a lot easier than I thought it would be.  Check out my sister’s blog here to see the one we reupholstered for her!
Can’t wait to find our next project!

Photo Ladder

I love pinterest.com because of all the great crafting ideas.  My latest project, a photo ladder, came from creative-ambitions.blogspot.com via Pinterest.
Here’s the idea I wanted to copy.
Luckily, I have a friend that had some tree branches that could be used for the frame.  And he also agreed to nail it together for me!  Gotta love having friends that are handy with tools.  :)
Next I wanted to personalize the frames.  I bought some wooden frames and paint from Hobby Lobby and let the boys each decorate their own frame.  One last trip to Walmart for some ribbon and twigs to add some more color and we were ready to put it all together!
Here is the final project.  I am totally in love with it.
I couldn’t be happier with the results!
Stay tuned for my next project… reuphostering chairs.

Getting Ready for Fall!

Yes, I know I am a couple months early but I love fall so much that I am already pulling out my fall decorations.  Yesterday my little sister and I decided to make harvest inspired wreaths for our front doors.
We ventured to Hobby Lobby to gather fun fall goodies to decorate with.
Here’s our loot.

We added our family initials to the wreaths.  I wasn’t sure about the color at first but ended up being very happy with my choice.

The final product!  Ready to hang on my front door and welcome the Fall season!

Pinterest Craft

I finally finished a “craft” that I’m borderline proud of.  It didn’t turn out PERFECT but it turn out good enough to display.  It was my sister’s idea… something she found on Pinterest and wanted to try so we did!
Here are the supplies…

12 x 12 canvas and scrapbook paper… Mod Podge and brushes
And since I don’t have a way to cut letters out I had to do the first ones by hand.
This was very time consuming and annoying… I found a better way…
My great friend Adele has a cricket!  So she brought it over and cut out all the cute designs for my pictures.
After I laid out all my canvas and paper I was ready to bust out the Mod Podge.
I even had a volunteer little helper to paint on the glue for me.
After finishing the first one I wasn’t too impressed with my work.  My sister and I sadly decided perhaps we should just give up on crafts… BUT…
We discovered the next morning after all the glue had dried that our project wasn’t a total disaster after all!  I was actually rather pleased with what we ended up with.
I don’t have a very good camera so I just had to use the one on my blackberry to get a shot of the final display.
Hope you enjoy seeing what I’ve been working on!

Weekend Project….

Weekend Project….
Last weekend me and my sister (@Willow Blue) decided make over a little piece of furniture a friend of mine gave to me.  We sanded for literally 7 1/2 hours!
We forgot to take a before picture but here is one of the drawers before we started on it.
This drawer had been painted over with a couple different paint colors so we have a lot of work cut out for us.
This is about half way into the sanding… a long way to go still!
All sanded… now we are ready to paint!

The final product was amazing!  So much better than we thought we would be able to accomplish.

This project was a tone of work but it was well worth it in the end.  My sister was able to use this piece in her new apartment and it really brightened up the place.
We had so much fun on this project.  Seriously, the sanding was like therapy!  We will definitely be doing this again.
